READ MORE HERETimothy Richards makes architectural models in plaster. He has built a collection of over 60 models which are available from stock. In addition he carries out commissions for private individuals to large organisations; from single items to batch runs.
Now in his eighth workshop he remains the only person living to have developed such work. The origins of this quality of plasterwork date back to the Fouquet’s who worked in Paris between 1780 and 1830. Tim has built a network of collectors in America and England over a quarter of a century.
Education remains at the heart of Tim’s models. They will stand the test of time. Over 150 commissions have been completed in 25 years of business. The principle material has always been plaster. In addition, other complementary materials are used including metal and glass. In the last ten years the workshop has also produced architectural work in bronze, notably for The Richard H. Driehaus Award.
“Timothy Richards produces faithful reproductions of landmark buildings of a quality which is unique… Integrity and care from the origination of the master to the hand finishing of every models are the hallmarks of his work…” Charles Knevitt – Architectural Plaster and Writer June 1989
“The peerless architectural models of Timothy Richards delight and inform the eyes of students, practitioners, and a design-loving public alike. It is a joy in this 32nd year of the Ross recognition to recognize his artisanal example to date and herald its promising future role in sustaining the classical tradition in contemporary culture.” Paul Gunther President, ICAA 2013
“What a completely gratifying experience it was to chair the jury for the 2012 Arthur Ross Awards. Our team marvelled at the quality and breadth of the entries which explored and expressed the ideals of classicism in architecture, landscape architecture, craftsmanship, artisanship and, for the first time, interior design. There were also important additions to our body of knowledge in history, research and publishing. We were particularly impressed by the notable accomplishments in stewardship and patronage; without these champions, our built environment would not enjoy such beauty and integrity…. If ever there was an opportunity to watch brilliant ideas running freely through the endless garden of classicism, this was it…My thanks for affording us all this pleasure.” Barbara Eberlein, Jury chair and Interior Designer, President of The ICAA Philadelphia Chapter
“While I cannot thank Palladio in person for his drawings, I can and must thank Timothy Richards, who has produced the beautiful plaster models which so wonderfully bring into the exhibition the actual buildings that Palladio and his American disciples built. Tim’s models combine exactitude with true artistry and help illustrate the American legacy superbly.” Harry Rich, Head of the RIBA trust
“Timothy Richards has triumphed. To hold one of his exquisite models in the palm of your hand is to grasp the very essence of architecture.” Lucinda Lambton, Broadcastor and Writer.
