The literary icon Oscar Wilde lived in 1 Merrion Square for the first 23 years of his life with his parents Sir William and Lady Wilde (also known as the poetess Speranza‚). The house, constructed in 1762 by Thomas Keating is an excellent example of a Georgian townhouse; the ground floor entrance with its unique stained glass window depicts the Happy Prince‚ from Wilde‚s writings.
